How did we even get here?

It’s been a rough few years health-wise, both physical and mental. Earlier this year I had to face up to the fact that if I didn’t start making some changes, I was going to keep on a downward trajectory that was taking me further from the life I’d like to be leading.

So I’ve decided to take a reset, start treating myself with some respect, and do the work instead of finding ways not to.

The magic you want is in the work you’re avoiding

UFC fighter, Jon Jones, talked in the past about how he would party on the run in to big fights so that – if he lost – he could explain away the loss as a consequence of the partying.

That strikes a chord with me. For two long I’ve given myself passes as I’ve made one unhealthy decision after another.

The impact of allowing myself to let go of my health and fitness was made very clear when I went out to run with one of my kids and couldn’t keep up within minutes. That felt truly crap and has spurred me on to make some changes.

The aim of this blog will be to document what I’m doing, how I’m progressing, and what opportunities open up if I really invest in myself.
