Whilst buying coffee at Black Sheep today, I spotted their functional coffees. A phrase that, until now had passed me by.
With ‘High protein’ being the new ‘0% fat’, it’s easy to see how these become another calorie-laden component of a diet that looks healthy on the surface but doesn’t really give the nutrition people need.
I’ve tried protein powder in coffee before… it didn’t work. I’m not convinced that adding mushroom powder will either.
If the main benefit sold is increased cognition, then I’m pretty certain the bulk of that effect is coming from the caffeine, not from the small addition of an additive.
Maybe once climate change has destroyed all the coffee crops, I’ll be forced to switch but I need some additional convincing that it’s not a marketing ploy for now.
